26. Entry Twenty Six: Army Side Quest
(Email Side Quest, October 2018)
Giovanni, leader of the Brotherhood Janko in Torch, reported he would not be able to give the Party as high a cut of his profits as usual because another gang,Tiamat's Chosen, was harassing them and extorting money from them.
While the party was preparing for the Armoury Heist, Helga had some free time, and decided this would be a good way to get the Army some training, and get them out of the camp for a while to relieve their boredom. After hiring a new Quartermaster for the Army (Tyvold Lestermaine), and deciding, with his input, to buy equipment for the army through the Planar Trade Consortium (with which Tyvold felt he could get a discount due to having worked there previously), she went to Ysgard and formed a plan.
She decided to attempt non-lethal (but violent) intimidation, at least at first. She brought most of the Army with her, including Sigurd, the Gith, and Abraxis the Battle Dragon. She used the Terrorize Executive Power.
The first day, she divided the army into a few groups, and had those groups further divide into a “stealth group” (wearing cloaks, and being relatively quiet), and a noisy, troublemaking group. The noisy groups were to go ahead and draw the attention of the Chosen's patrols, while after combat was initiated, the stealth group would flank the Chosen, and hopefully overwhelm them and prevent them from sending anyone for back-up.
The second day, when she figured they'd be more prepared for a fight, she instead sent a couple of large hordes in, hopefully surprising and dealing with any Chosen patrols or gate guards without much trouble, and had them head directly to the nearest Tabernacle of the Dark Flame, a group of Evil Clerics who the Chosen have a partnership with. There, they destroyed anything in sight, and threatened the priests with further violence unless they told the Chosen to back off from the Brotherhood.
The mission ended successfully, and the Chosen decided it was no longer worth their while to extort money from the Brotherhood.
